Benchmark Email Review (2026): Simple, Priced Plainly, Thin on Automation

Published Sep 12, 2026Prices checked Sep 22, 2026

Benchmark Email suits a small business that sends one campaign at a time and wants a plain, predictable plan: a free tier for 500 contacts, a single paid plan priced by contacts, and every listed feature on both. It is a weaker fit for anyone who needs automated sequences, because Benchmark's current pricing and features pages do not list automation workflows at all.

This review is based on Benchmark's pricing page and features page, read on 22 September 2026, with each list size selected on the page itself. We did not send campaigns through it.

Benchmark's plans

Benchmark sells two self-serve plans and an Enterprise tier. The pricing page's headline is "Transparent Pricing. Zero Surprises.", and the plan structure lives up to it: the page says every feature is in every plan, and the paid plan differs from the free one in limits rather than in features.

  • Free: up to 500 contacts and 2,500 sends a month, one user, one domain, two API keys.
  • Pro: 1,000 to 100,000 contacts, sends up to ten times the contact limit, one user included with extra users at $15 a month each, up to ten domains, ten API keys, and list verification for one list up to the plan size.
  • Enterprise: for more than 100,000 contacts, priced by the sales team.

What Benchmark costs

Pro costs $19 a month at 1,000 contacts on monthly billing, or $16 a month billed annually. At 5,000 contacts it is $63 or $54; at 10,000, $93 or $79; at 25,000, $179 or $152; and at 100,000, $499 or $425.

Benchmark Pro, monthly against annual billing

USD per month · read 22 September 2026

monthly billing billed annually

1,000contacts$19$16
5,000contacts$63$54
10,000contacts$93$79
25,000contacts$179$152
100,000contacts$499$425

Annual billing saves about 15% at every size. The currency drop-down on the pricing page offers ten currencies, including US and Canadian dollars, pounds, euros and yen, which is useful for businesses outside the US.

How the price compares

At small sizes Benchmark is expensive for what it includes. At 5,000 contacts its $63 a month on monthly billing was the highest of the seven entry plans we priced, against $31.50 for EmailOctopus Pro and $54 for GetResponse Starter — and GetResponse includes three users and automation.

At larger sizes it becomes competitive: at 100,000 contacts Benchmark Pro's $499 undercuts GetResponse Starter's $539, AWeber Lite's $600 and Moosend Pro's $624, though not EmailOctopus Pro's $345 or Sender Standard's $367. Our comparison of costs at 5k, 25k and 100k contacts has the full table.

What the plans include

The features Benchmark lists are about building, sending and measuring campaigns, and they are the same on both plans. The editor offers drag-and-drop building, templates, blank layouts, an HTML editor, saved content blocks, personalisation with merge fields, desktop and mobile previews, and an "email audit checklist" that flags missing links and image alt text before you send.

Around the editor sit signup forms, popup forms and hosted form pages with reCAPTCHA; contact management with tags, lists, custom fields, import and export; and reporting with an activity feed, link activity and an engagement timeline. Benchmark also lists AI tools — "Smart Text" to rephrase and correct copy, and AI-generated images.

For connections, it lists an API and Zapier, which it says links to more than 8,000 apps.

What the pages do not list

On 22 September 2026, neither Benchmark's pricing page nor its features page listed automation workflows — welcome series, drip sequences or triggered emails — or A/B testing. We describe only what the pages say; the product may offer more than its pages show, and it is worth asking Benchmark before you commit if you need either.

For a business that sends a campaign a month to a small list, that gap may not matter. For one that wants a welcome email to go out on its own, it does: GetResponse, Sender, AWeber and Moosend all list automation on the plans we price.

Users and teams

Benchmark includes one user on both plans and charges $15 a month for each extra user on Pro, with no plan upgrade needed. That is simple, and it adds up: a four-person team pays $45 a month on top of the plan price.

Compare GetResponse Starter's three users, Sender Standard's three seats, and unlimited users on AWeber Plus and EmailOctopus Pro. Our guide to B2B email marketing software sets these side by side.

Where Benchmark stands

Benchmark places seventh of seven in our ranking of the best email marketing software. It scores well on clarity, on its free plan and on published prices; it loses on automation, on per-user charges and on price at smaller list sizes.

The right Benchmark customer is a small organisation with one person sending occasional campaigns, who values a simple interface over a long feature list. For that business, the free plan may be all it ever needs.

Setting up Benchmark for bulk sending

Pro allows up to ten sending domains, which helps a business that sends for more than one brand. Authenticate each domain before you use it: Google's published guidelines require SPF, DKIM, DMARC and one-click unsubscribe from senders of more than 5,000 messages a day to Gmail accounts.

CAN-SPAM's rules apply to every campaign — a postal address, a working opt-out and opt-outs honoured within 10 business days. Our bulk email services guide lists the setup in order.

Questions to ask before choosing Benchmark

Benchmark's pages are clear about price, which leaves a short list of things to confirm before you commit. Ask them in writing and keep the answer with your records.

  • Automation: can the plan send a welcome email or a sequence on its own, and on which plan? Its current pages do not say.
  • Testing: can you split-test subject lines or content before a full send?
  • Team access: how many people will need a login in the next year, at $15 a month each beyond the first?
  • List growth: at what list size will you cross into the next price tier, and what does that tier cost on annual billing?

If the first two answers are no and you need either, a platform that lists them will serve you better, even at a slightly higher price. If the answers are yes, Benchmark's plain pricing becomes a real strength rather than a sign of a thin product.

Our verdict

Choose Benchmark if you want the simplest possible tool for one-off campaigns and your list fits the free plan, or if you are a single sender with a large list, where Pro's price is competitive. Look elsewhere if you need automated emails, several users or the lowest price at 5,000 contacts. If it fits, visit Benchmark Email (partner link) and start on the free plan.
