Brevo Review (2026): Paying by the Email, Not the Contact
Brevo is the email marketing platform to price first if your list is large and you email it only now and then, because it sizes its plans by the emails you send each month rather than by the number of contacts you keep. For a small list emailed several times a week, the same model makes it less attractive than a plan priced by list size.
This review is based on Brevo's pricing page and help text, read on 22 September 2026. Brevo's affiliate programme turns away sites like this one, so there is no partner link here — every Brevo link on this page is a plain link that earns us nothing.
How Brevo's pricing works
Brevo's marketing plans are sized by monthly email volume. Starter's plan card reads "From 5,000 emails per month", and Professional's "From 150,000 emails per month"; you choose a volume and the price follows it.
The entry prices in Brevo's pricing data on 22 September 2026, in US dollars, were Starter $9 a month, Standard $18 a month and Professional $499 a month on monthly billing. Yearly billing is labelled 10% off: $96.96 a year for Starter and $194.04 for Standard at the entry volume. Enterprise, aimed at companies with more than a million contacts, is priced by quote.
Brevo's visible price widget loads in the browser rather than in the page, so we record only the entry prices; for any other volume, use its calculator on the day you buy.
When per-email pricing wins
Per-email pricing wins when your list is large relative to how often you write to it. The sum is simple: list size multiplied by campaigns per month gives your monthly volume, and that volume — not the list — sets Brevo's price.
Close monthly volumes, lists ten times apart
Solid bar: emails a month (what Brevo prices). Pale bar: list size (what list-priced platforms price).
Take two businesses with similar volumes. A 20,000-person list emailed once a month sends 20,000 emails; a 2,000-person list emailed three times a week — about 13 campaigns in an average month — sends about 26,000. On Brevo they sit at similar volumes. On a platform priced by list size, the first business pays for 20,000 contacts every month — the nearest size in our price table is 25,000, where Sender Standard costs $149 and EmailOctopus Pro $94.50 on monthly billing — while the second pays for 2,000.
So the first business should price Brevo before anything else, and the second probably should not.
The free plan
Brevo's free plan lets you upload contacts and, once Brevo approves the account for sending, send up to 300 emails a day. No card is needed to sign up, according to Brevo's pricing FAQ.
Three hundred a day is enough for a small list or a slow drip of messages, and not for a campaign: a send to 1,500 people takes five days to go out in full. Use the free plan to set up and test; use a paid plan to send campaigns.
Transactional email on the same account
Every Brevo plan includes transactional email — messages your own systems trigger, such as order confirmations and password resets — through a REST API and an SMTP relay, according to its pricing FAQ. Brevo is not alone — Sender lists transactional emails on its plans, and GetResponse offers them on Enterprise — but Brevo documents API and SMTP access as part of every plan, including the free one.
For a small business, one account for both kinds of mail means one set of authentication records and one bill. If you only need transactional mail, a dedicated relay may still be simpler; our comparison of an ESP and an SMTP relay covers the trade-off.
Plans in more detail
Starter is aimed at single users starting out and is sized from 5,000 emails a month. Standard, described by Brevo as its most popular plan, adds click heatmaps and geography and device reports, with one landing page included.
Professional adds more channels — WhatsApp, popups, and mobile and web push — along with ten seats included. The pricing page's feature list runs from an AI content generator, unlimited automation workflows and A/B testing to contact scoring, a customer loyalty engine and dedicated IPs; which plan each belongs to is set out in Brevo's own plan comparison, and we do not reproduce it here.
Brevo also sells a CRM ("Sales Essentials") alongside its marketing plans, which matters to B2B teams who want contacts and deals in one place.
Pay-as-you-go credits
For businesses that send only a few times a year, Brevo offers prepaid email credits instead of a monthly plan. Its FAQ states that one email sent uses one credit and that the credits do not expire, and that the pay-as-you-go option does not include phone support.
That is a genuinely different way to buy: a seasonal business can pay once for the year's sends and keep the balance, rather than paying for months with no campaigns.
Where Brevo stands against the alternatives
In our ranking of the best email marketing software, Brevo places third, behind GetResponse and Sender. It loses points on predictability — the calculator hides the price above the entry tier — and gains them on transactional email and on its pricing model for large, occasional lists.
For a list emailed often, the per-contact platforms are usually cheaper: EmailOctopus Pro cost $31.50 a month at 5,000 subscribers on monthly billing, with up to 50,000 sends included.
Setting up Brevo for bulk campaigns
As with any platform, authenticate the domain you send from before the first campaign. Google's published sender guidelines require SPF, DKIM, DMARC and one-click unsubscribe from senders of more than 5,000 messages a day to Gmail accounts, and ask every sender to keep the spam rate below 0.3%.
The same CAN-SPAM rules apply to Brevo campaigns as to any other: a postal address, a working opt-out and opt-outs honoured within 10 business days. Our bulk email services guide lists the setup in order.
Our verdict
Price Brevo first if your list is big and your sending is occasional, or if you want marketing and transactional email under one roof. Look elsewhere if you email a small list several times a week, where a plan priced by list size will usually cost less. If Brevo fits, start on the free plan and move to Starter when the daily cap gets in the way: visit Brevo — a plain link; Brevo runs no programme we can join, so it earns us nothing.
